Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

4 years of experience with diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer hardware and server hardware.

Experience with networking protocols.

Experience with performing component-level repairs on IT equipment.

Ability to lift/move 50lb (23kg) of equipment as required and ability to exert yourself physically over extended periods of time, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling and lifting.

Ability to work non-standard hours, including working weekends, night shifts, holidays and on shift-based schedules as required.

Preferred qualifications:

6 years of experience in maintenance and monitoring of server systems.

Experience working within a data center or network operation center environment.

Experience collaborating and partnering with teams.

Experience in team and project management and leadership.

About the job Google isn't just a software company. The Hardware Operations team is responsible for monitoring the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure behind Google's powerful search technology. As an Operations Technician, you'll install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain hardware (like servers and its components) and server software (like Google's Linux cluster). Coordinate across teams to manage construction activities at facilities to support service vendors, and ensure safety, security, and compliance. Help identify needs and coordinate the allocation of resources for space expansion and modification design.

Compile and analyze data to create and configure scripts and tools for data center-related tracking and reporting, in line with project objectives, with some guidance.

Provide mentorship to deploy and operate new data center infrastructure across teams.

Report issues and follow data center procedures to troubleshoot and diagnose issues with equipment or infrastructure as they arise, and identify the resources needed to resolve issues.

Own the repair, fix, and performance of preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, or infrastructure based on identified issues with limited precedent.
