About the CompanyOur client is a well-established manufacturing company specialising in electrical connectors and EV components, supporting customers primarily in the European market. With a manufacturing footprint in Johor Bahru and close collaboration with a sister company in China, the business operates a 100% export model and is now strengthening its supply chain leadership to support growth and operational stability.This is a newly created role, introduced as part of the company's succession and capability-building plan.The RoleThe Senior Supply Chain Manager (Shipping) will be responsible for overseeing and strengthening the company's shipping operations, ensuring smooth export execution, cost control, and timely material flow into Malaysia.Reporting into the General Manager, this role will sit between senior management and operations, managing a small team initially and working closely with Procurement and China-based colleagues to resolve material shortages and improve end-to-end supply chain performance.This position offers strong long-term progression potential into a broader Head of Supply Chain role for a high-performing individual.Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the shipping function, ensuring timely and compliant export operations (primarily EU markets)
  • Work closely with Procurement and China counterparts to resolve material shortages and ensure on-time inbound material availability
  • Drive freight cost and price control, including monitoring logistics spend and identifying cost-saving opportunities
  • Strengthen SAP utilisation, improving data accuracy, reporting, and process discipline
  • Manage and develop the current shipping team (initially one Assistant Manager)
  • Act as a change agent, challenging legacy practices and driving process improvement within a long-tenured workforce
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Planning, Purchasing, Warehouse, and Logistics teams
  • Provide clear updates and escalations to senior management on risks, delays, and performance issues
Requirements
  • Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in supply chain, logistics, or shipping within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong hands-on experience in export shipping operations (documentation, coordination with forwarders, compliance)
  • SAP experience is mandatory (hands-on usage and process improvement exposure)
  • Proven experience in cost control / price management within logistics or supply chain
  • Comfortable working with China-based suppliers.
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to drive change, challenge established practices, and manage difficult conversations
  • Background in electronics, automotive, EV, or related manufacturing industries preferred
