It was featured in the Financial Times and Statista’s Top 500 High-Growth Companies Asia-Pacific 2026 list and named “Most Disruptive Insurtech in Malaysia” at the Insurance Asia News (IAN) Country Awards for Excellence 2025.As a licensed Reinsurer, General Insurer and Takaful Operator by the Labuan Financial Services Authority (LFSA), an approved Financial Adviser and Islamic Financial Adviser by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), and a licensee of the Australian Financial Services License by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), PolicyStreet is able to underwrite, customize policies, and provide unbiased advice to its clients and partners worldwide.ABOUT THE ROLE:We are looking for a Legal Counsel to serve as a key legal partner to the business as PolicyStreet continues to scale across Southeast Asia.This role will work closely with senior leadership to support commercial partnerships, regulatory matters, and strategic initiatives across the group, including our reinsurance arm Polisea Re.You will operate as a trusted legal advisor to the business, helping structure partnerships, manage legal risk, and enable innovative insurance solutions in a fast-moving regulatory environment.As the company grows, this role will also contribute to building and shaping the legal function, establishing frameworks and processes that support the long-term scalability of the organisation.WHAT YOU’LL DO:Strategic Legal Advisory

Act as a trusted legal partner to business leaders, providing pragmatic legal advice that enables commercial objectives while managing risk.

Identify legal risks early and propose practical, business-oriented solutions.

Commercial Contracts & Partnerships

Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements including:

- insurance partnerships- distribution agreements- technology and platform integrations- service provider arrangements- cross-border commercial contracts

Ensure agreements accurately reflect commercial intent while protecting the company’s interests.

Regulatory & Compliance

Support the company in navigating regulatory environments across multiple jurisdictions including Malaysia, Labuan, and other regional markets.

Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulatory frameworks, and licensing requirements.

Monitor regulatory developments affecting insurance, fintech, and digital distribution models.

Insurance & Risk Structures

Support legal aspects of insurance programs, underwriting partnerships, and reinsurance arrangements, including reviewing policy structures and commercial frameworks.

Work closely with underwriting, product, and partnership teams to ensure new programs are legally sound and commercially viable.

Legal Operations & Governance

Establish and maintain legal documentation standards, contract management practices, and governance frameworks that support the company’s growth.

Over time, help shape and build the legal function and capabilities as the organisation scales.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with teams across the organisation including business development, underwriting, product, technology, and operations to provide practical legal support.

Work effectively with external counsel where specialised expertise is required.

RequirementsWHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU:

5–8 years of legal experience, preferably in a leading law firm or a mix of private practice and in-house roles.
Qualified to practice law in Malaysia or another common law jurisdiction.
Strong experience in commercial contracts and complex partnerships.
Familiarity with regulatory frameworks governing financial services in Malaysia, including the Financial Services Act 2013 (FSA) and related regulatory guidelines.
Experience or interest in insurance, fintech, insurtech, or regulated financial services.
Ability to work independently and manage legal matters across multiple business areas.
Comfortable operating in a fast-growing and entrepreneurial environment.
Strong drafting, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
Pragmatic, solutions-oriented mindset with strong commercial judgement.
High integrity and strong sense of ownership.
