Responsible for Underwriting function of the business and assisting Head of Customer Commitment (Underwriting) in the implementation of the operation strategy in the area of underwriting in order to achieve the company’s goal. Responsible in managing and supervising the subordinates to align and achieve the operational / performance goals of the unit.Key responsibilities:Performs prudent underwriting risk assessment on all distribution channels within the stipulated underwriting turnaround time.Ensures full compliance with the rules and regulations of BNM, MAS, MTA, Company Guidelines. FATCA, Islamic Financial Service Act 2013 and CRSApproves cases that are within the authority limit and ensure all underwriting decisions are comply with regulatory requirements, company policies, and industry standards.Works with all distribution channel and customers to rectify potential underwriting issues.Assesses and predicts possible risks posed by applicants to company.Monitors policies to ensure ongoing compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulations.Train and cross train within and outside their unit.Responsible for maintaining, updating & implementing Internal Underwriting Guidelines (IUG) in collaboration with Retakaful, product team, actuaries and etc.Reviews underwriting guideline and recommend process improvement to ensure underwriting process remains effective and aligned with industry standards.Assists and support for any ad-hoc task assigned by supervisor.Assists and response on timely manner on inquiries from another department (eg. Agency Distribution, Partnership, Customer service, etc).Manages and resolve complaints particularly with regards to non-Disclosure on timely manner and with due caution.Takes accountability in considering business and regulatory compliance risks and takes appropriate steps to mitigate the risks.Maintains awareness of industry trends on regulatory compliance, emerging threats and technologies in order to understand the risk and better safeguard the company.Highlights any potential concerns /risks and proactively shares best risk management practices.Support other underwriters as assigned when other underwriters on annual or medical leaveQualificationsFormal degree or Higher. Other professional qualification is an advantage, ie FLMI, AMII Takaful Basic Examination, Retakaful trainingAt least with 4 plus years related insurance/takaful experiences; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Prior experience working in a paperless environment, including familiarity with on-lineunderwriting tools is preferredBasic knowledge of computer programs in a Windows environment, including Word,Knowledge in Excel and E-mail is requiredStrong drive to be successful including ability to work independently, self-motivation,motivating others, and relentless pursuit of company objectivesCustomer focus, continually responding with a sense of urgencyHigh level of integrity, takes accountability of work and good attitude over teamwork.Takes initiative to improve current state of things and adaptable to embrace new changes.
